Why We're Building a Support Garment for Women Next

Why We're Building a Support Garment for Women Next

Something has been happening at Bariatric Technologies that I'm grateful for. Women have been finding us on their own, and they've been asking to be part of what we're building.

Nobody prompted them. They found a company that understands life after significant weight loss, and they wanted to know whether there will be something for them too. I read every one of those messages. They are at the very heart of why I am writing this.

Women were always in the plan

The need for a support garment for women was never in question. Women who've lost significant weight, through bariatric surgery, GLP-1 type medications, or both, live with the same everyday realities of loose skin: discomfort, chafing, and finding something that stays put under their clothes.

I've spent more than 30 years as an occupational therapist working in obesity care. I know how much it matters to be offered something made with you in mind. So we took our time. We wanted to be sure it was right before we asked anyone to rely on it.

A milestone worth sharing

We've reached an important design milestone, and it's the point where we feel we can share more.

ActiveForma, our first product for women, is in final testing. Women who've experienced significant weight loss have tested it and helped shape it along the way. It's made in Canada with a small manufacturer, and it's designed for real bodies.

Here's a first look at what we can share today. ActiveForma is a one-piece, mid-calf-length base-layer garment designed to support loose skin. It has an open chest, so you can wear your favourite bra, a side zip for easy access and breathable mesh panels. It will be available in black and beige, in seven sizes.

We've laid out more of the story, with renders of the design, on the new ActiveForma page. These are design renders, and a few small details may change before launch.

Follow along over the next few months

We expect ActiveForma to reach the market in a few months. Between now and then, we'll keep sharing what we learn as we finish testing.

The best way to stay on top of developments is to join our mailing list on the ActiveForma page. Members hear first, including when pre-orders open. Joining doesn't commit you to anything, and you can unsubscribe with one click.

To every woman who's reached out: thank you for asking. You helped move this up our list, and we're glad you did.
