Our CEO and CPO
As the founder, Chief Executive Officer and Chief Product Officer Dr. Mary Forhan brings 33 years of experience as an Occupational Therapist, Rehabilitation Scientist and former Scientific Director of Obesity Canada. A theme that emerged early in her research was that individuals in treatment for obesity were putting their lives on hold. They were waiting until they lost weight before they could do the things they wanted and needed to do. Dr. Forhan was inspired by these stories to work with patients to find solutions that would enable "living while losing".
Inspiration for the Company
The company was inspired by Dr. Forhan's observation of the need for a product that could support the weight of excess abdominal skin. This product also aims to reduce the movement of excess skin, which can cause chafing, falls, and pressure on the back, hips, and knees. This is a complex problem that requires an innovative, scientifically based approach to solve. As a result, our garments were created with technical intention that prioritizes performance, comfort, and support.
Why Now?
Until recently, obesity was not recognized as a chronic disease and only a few people had effective treatment options. However, with recent innovations in the treatment, more people are experiencing significant weight loss. There is a need for a comprehensive obesity treatment strategy that needs to include interventions to support the outcomes of significant weight loss, including excess skin and tissue. At Bariatric Technologies, we believe that no matter where a person is at in their weight loss journey, everyone deserves quality care, and we are here as an important option.
